Ingredients
  

Base Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 400 g beef mince 14oz
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 100 g carrot, grated 3½oz
  • 2 400g tins chopped tomatoes
  • 400 ml stock made from stock cube (preferably beef)
  • 400 g dried spaghetti 14oz
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste

Cooking Method

  • Heat a large saucepan over medium heat. Add a tablespoon of olive oil, then add the beef mince with a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook until browned then set aside.
  • Add another tablespoon of oil to the saucepan. Turn the heat to medium, add onions with a pinch of salt, and fry for 5-6 minutes until softened. Add the garlic and cook for 2 more minutes.
  • Add grated carrot, then pour the mince and any juices back into the saucepan. Add tomatoes and stir to mix. Pour in the stock, bring to a simmer, and reduce heat to cook gently for 45 minutes.
  • To cook the spaghetti, heat water in a large saucepan, add a pinch of salt, and cook according to packet instructions. Drain and mix with the bolognese sauce before serving.

Notes

This bolognese sauce can be cooked in advance and frozen for up to 3 months. Adjust seasoning to taste for a richer flavor.
